Wild About Books
by Judy Sierra
Summary
Wild About Books is about a Springfield librarian name Molly McGrew, who by mistake drove her bookmobile into the zoo. All the animals in the zoo didn't really know what to do. So Molly read aloud and attracted some animals such as a wombat, an oryx, a lemur and a moose and many others who came to listen to the story. Soon all the animals were stampeding toward the librarian to learn more about this thing called reading. After a while all of the animals at the zoo had different kinds of books. Then the animals decide to build a Zoobrary at the zoo and stock it full of new books. At the end of the story it tells why if you visit a zoo and have a hard time finding the animals it's because their all in their niches reading their books. This story has a rhythmic pattern to it.

Impressions
My impression of Wild About Books is I really enjoyed this book. I loved the rhyming pattern in the book and I love how it introduced new animals such as bandicoots, Tasmanian devil, mink, and oryx
you probably never heard of and some classic old ones like the elephant, otter, moose and giraffes. Great illustrations in this book the colors are bright and friendly. Definitely promotes reading in a fun exciting way by using the zoo something everyone is familiar with.

Library use
I would definitely do a zoo theme and read this book in storytime. Then we would sing the song " This Is the Way sung to the tune of the Mulberry Bush which goes something like this:
This is the way the elephants walks,
The elephant walks,
This is the way the elephant walks,
In the zoo!
Then you use other zoo animals such as the lion, alligator, hyena and so on.
After the song we would then make a zoo craft by printing off different zoo animals and cutting them out and having the kids color them and stick jumbo size popsicle sticks on them making zoo animal puppets.
